PointLog Solutions Inc. began its operations in the 1990s. At that time, our clients — small and medium-sized businesses — were dealing with Microsoft products that were often unstable and, as they still are today, disproportionately targeted by hackers. Our response was to replace Windows servers with Linux servers (OpenSUSE) and to use Samba for document sharing. We also managed several computer networks running a mix of Mac and Windows machines. Since Linux supported all the network protocols for every platform, integration was greatly simplified.
This introduction to the Linux world led us to appreciate the value and efficiency of open-source software. It served as a springboard for several other projects which, over the years, evolved alongside the transformation of technology and software licensing policies.
Today, Linux and open-source software are omnipresent in our lives. Every time you make a banking transaction, it's Linux at work. In your phone, your television, your home router, or even your car's computer, Linux ensures the hardware functions properly. We had the right instinct, and our contribution has always been to bring our clients the advantages of Linux and open-source software — and to make them known.
Since the early 2010s, alongside Linux's breakthrough into large enterprises like Amazon and Google, cloud computing made its way into small and medium-sized businesses. After several interesting projects, PointLog finally grouped all its solutions under a single name: OpenCanopea.
— Open, because open-source software predominates.
— Canopea (Canopy), because in fact, the cloud doesn't really exist — it is anchored to the ground. It's the canopy.
In harmony with its origins, PointLog, through the OpenCanopea project, now specializes in the maintenance of SaaS and PaaS solutions. You too can see how your business can benefit from open-source software and Linux in particular. Visit www.opencanopea.ca.
